Dubai Golf had an outstanding evening at the annual 59Club Awards held this week in the UK by receiving five prestigious awards and further cementing its world-class reputation.
Regarded by many as the ‘Oscars’ of the golf service industry, the awards are designed to reward the top golf venues across all business elements – sales, service, operations, retail, food and beverage, and management – while 59club’s industry benchmark, the Gold and Silver Flags recognise the finest membership clubs and commercial venues in the UK and Europe, including Wentworth, Celtic Manor Resort, Gleneagles and Monte Rei Golf & Country Club, as well as golf groups such as QHotels and Marriott.
In addition to the much-vaunted ‘Golf Group of the Year’ title, Dubai Golf’s Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club received a Gold Flag award, as well as the award for the ‘Ultimate Members Club’, an honour given to the venue which leads the average scores of all those receiving a Gold Flag.
Emirates Golf Club also took home an esteemed Gold Flag award while Dubai Golf’s Director of Golf Course Maintenance, Craig Haldane, left with the award for ‘Greenkeeper of the Year’. On receiving news of his win, Haldane said “It is a great honor to receive the award and sincerely appreciated by all my colleagues in the Golf Course Maintenance Department. These are the guys who work as a team and continuously put in all the effort throughout the year in order for us to achieve our goals. Credit must go to them!”
In total, 18 awards were presented at a ceremony at the Forest of Arden Marriott Hotel & Country Club, England, celebrating the achievements of the very best individuals, teams and venues within the golf industry, while 20 golf venues saw their commitment to continued quality recognised with the award of a prestigious ‘flag’.
Collecting the awards, on behalf of Dubai Golf, Barney Coleman, Emirates Golf Club’s Director of Golf, said: “It’s fantastic to have such a successful night for the second year in a row. We’re very proud, as it’s a massive team effort, across Emirates Golf Club and Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club.
“We’ve put a lot of work in over the last couple of summers; we’ve done a lot of training on service culture, and all the colleagues have shown a lot of dedication and have embraced it. And, looking at these awards, it seems they’ve delivered it over the last 24 months. We are delighted. ”
“Emirates Golf Club has been operating for 27 years, and Dubai Creek for 23 years and we also now manage Almouj Golf in Oman, so we have four golf courses over three properties. The worldwide reputation of Dubai Golf is going from strength to strength.”
Simon Wordsworth, chief executive at 59club and a fellow of the PGA, said: “Congratulations to the Dubai Golf group on an outstanding performance in 2015. They all do a fabulous job as shown by their excellent performance in our mystery shopper tests. And special mention also to Craig, for the outstanding condition of his course, week in, week out.”
59Club is fast becoming the industry standard for measuring and comparing customer-service levels and analysing all key revenue streams for golf venues, and is committed to the on-going development of club managers and PGA professionals.
The unique benchmarking and training service has already benefited hundreds of PGA members and golf course operators. The services include a series of mystery shopper recorded-enquiry calls and live visits, followed up with regular analysis and training to ensure venues can identify trends and compare, improve, or maintain, service standards.
