The 2018 Masters Tournament winner Patrick Reed has confirmed he will return to Scotland for the Aberdeen Standard Investments Scottish Open, the fifth Rolex Series event of the 2018 season, at Gullane Golf Club, from July 12-15.
The current Race to Dubai Rankings presented by Rolex leader, who triumphed at Augusta National to secure his first Major Championship in April, will make his third consecutive appearance at Scotland’s national open, after teeing it up at Castle Stuart in 2016 and Dundonald Links last year.
World Number 11 Reed will now return to Scotland, the Home of Golf, for his third appearance on the European Tour’s Rolex Series, a premium category of tournaments on the Race to Dubai, each with a minimum prize fund of US$7million.
In 2014 Reed became the youngest winner of a World Golf Championships event at the WGC-Cadillac Championship, going on to make his first appearance in The Ryder Cup later that year, before he famously defeated Rory McIlroy in the Sunday singles at Hazeltine National in 2016 as the United States won the coveted trophy for the first time in eight years.
He then secured his first Major title in April after holding off late charges from compatriots Rickie Fowler – who secured the Scottish Open title at Gullane in 2015 – and Jordan Spieth to don the famous Green Jacket.
Taking place in its usual slot in the week before The Open Championship at Carnoustie, the Scottish Open will provide Reed an ideal opportunity to hone his links game before the third Major of the 2018 season.
Reed said: “I’m excited to add the Aberdeen Standard Investments Scottish Open to my schedule again. It is always played on some fantastic links courses, and provides a true test ahead of The Open.
“This will be the third year in a row that I have played this event and I always enjoy it, so I’m looking forward to getting to Gullane in July.”
The world-class golf on Scotland’s Golf Coast at the Aberdeen Standard Investments Scottish Open will be complemented by entertainment, children’s activities and food and drink outlets showcasing local produce.
